Five Minute Makeup Look
I have a lot of friends and clients who are mums and they simply do not have the time in the morning to do their makeup. So after many requests – here is my go-to Five Minute Face I put on when I don’t have time but I still want to look presentable before I rush out the door.
I only use a handful of products which most of you will already have in your makeup bag and the trick is to get those products to multi-task for you.
I have broken it down into 10 Steps but don’t be alarmed – these steps are super easy and fuss-free and you will have your makeup finished in no time.
I have already applied my skincare – I do this on routine when I step out of the shower. I use Ultraceuticals and in particular the Ultra Protective Antioxidant Complex followed by the UV Protective Daily Moisturiser . My mum is a red-head with fair skin and prone to sun burn so we were raised with sunscreen every day.
Step 1: Primer
In this tutorial I used the Luma Beauty Liquid Light Illuminating Primer. There are loads of different Primers on the market and each target different concerns (i.e. if your makeup wears off you need an oil-control primer to help make your foundation last longer, if you find your skin gets flaky throughout the day you would use a primer that adds hydration). In this tutorial I was only wearing my makeup for few hours – I didn’t need long lasting so instead I focused on illuminating to get a nice glow. This is a great primer to add radiance and glow to your skin – its only around $30 from Priceline and is usually always part of the Priceline sales!
Step 2: Foundation
I buff my foundation in with the Real Techniques Face Brush. For me this is the quickest and easiest way. I find my fingertips spread foundation out too much and sheer out the product (I love more of a full coverage). But you do what works for you. I love the Studio Fix Fluid Foundation by MAC Cosmetics.
Step 3: Concealer
(I said primer in the tutorial but I meant concealer sorry!!)-I use my fingertips to apply it under my eyes to save time. We have five minutes ladies so just get it on and use your brush to buff it into the skin. This is the Prolong Wear Concealer by MAC Cosmetics. Its a long-lasting concealer which SETS. Because it sets I can use it on my eyelids as a primer also (see another 2-in-1 product). If your concealer is HYDRATING it probably won’t set and therefore won’t be good to use on the eyelids as Hydrating products = moisture and moisture will crease. In that case use an eyeshadow primer. (If you need a list of recommendations on eye shadow primers let me know, I have used tonnes).
Step 4: Blush
Or Bronzer if you are more tanned. This is also going to be our eyeshadow. I use the MAC Cosmetics #168 Contour Brush you basically just want a soft fluffy brush which isn’t too big (you don’t want blush to cover your whole face). The quickest way I find is to smile – find the ‘apple’s’ of your cheek, apply then blend upwards towards the top of your ear.
Step 5: Eyeshadow
Now taking our blush/bronzer again but with a small fluffy brush (I have used the MAC Cosmetics #217 Brush) I apply all over the eyelid, and then through the crease using a wind-screen wiper motion.
Step 6: Eyeliner
I am always trying new eyeliners and this one so far is pretty promising and its only $10 from Myers and Target! Win! Its the Chi Chi Stay on Eyeliner in the Colour ‘You Sexy Thing’ which is a dark brown. What makes a good eyeliner for me is one that doesn’t drag the delicate skin around your eye when you apply it, and also doesn’t transfer and give you panda eyes throughout the day as you wear it. I apply this to my bottom waterline. I then go back in with a pencil brush (I used the #219 MAC Brush) and again just gently buffed a bit of the blush/bronzer under the eye – this will gently smudge that eyeliner under the eye and give you a soft smokey look.
Step 7: Lashes
I curl and mascara my lashes. I need a good curl as my lashes are super straight and when I curl them you can actually see them – if your lashes are naturally curly you can leave this step out. My fave mascara is the White Knight Mascara by Poni Cosmetics. It doesn’t smudge or transfer on me at all and its easy to take off at the end of the day.
Step 8: Highlighter
my favorite step! I love adding glow in! I used a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick . They come in loads of colours. I use a smaller fluffy brush (the Real Techniques Setting Brush) and used it on my cheek bones, down the center of my nose and top lip. And I used my finger tip to apply it to the inner corner of my eye to add a bit of a pop.
Step 9: Brows
Another Bobbi Brown product, but shop around lots of companies are doing these now – this is the Perfectly Defined Long Wear Brow in a wind up formula with a spoolie on the other end. In terms of value for product – I find an eyeshadow powder or cream with a brush lasts far longer BUT these all-in-one products are convenient and quick so is a better option to grab when you are in a rush.
Step 10: Lips
last step! wahooo! Wear whatever you like! Be it lipstick, balm or gloss. You do you. Last Bobbi Brown product I swear – but the Art Sticks are a 2-in-one (see I am multi-tasking again) as they are basically a lip liner and lipstick in one. I have used the colour in ‘Bare’.
There you have it – a full face of makeup in no time! As always if there is a particular makeup topic you would like me to blog about I would love to hear! Send me a message francesca.artistry@gmail.com xx
